Whitewater Rafting on the Kern River

We’re excited to offer this trip again! Scouts will raft the 8–9 mile Class III stretch of the Lower Kern River with Whitewater Voyages, the same professional outfitter we used last year. The run starts just downstream of Lake Isabella and winds through a granite gorge lined with pine, sycamore, and willow trees, with Class III rapids throughout. The trip includes a stop at the “Jungle Run Jumping Rock” to cool off. Water temperatures hover around 70°F for ideal summer rafting conditions.

That evening, we will camp at Camp 3 Campground along the river. On Sunday, we will day hike a 5-mile round trip on the Packsaddle Trail to explore Packsaddle Cave before returning home.

Note: All participants must pass the BSA Swim Test (adults included) to attend. The test can be completed at Cabrillo Scout Center in late August or if already completed at summer camp, no retest is…
